Fanatec Clubsport Shifter SQ Review by The Simpit

Fanatec has long been known for their sim racing products.  In recent years they have really stepped things up with the addition of the Clubsport level of products.  The latest component to enter this family is the Clubsport Shifter SQ.  This is an all metal 7 speed plus reverse shifter that also features a sequential mode at the flip of the switch.  In this review we examine the shifter from every angle inside and out.  We hammer on it lap after lap and let you know how well it performed.

That seems to be the Fanatec way, it was the same a few years ago when I ordered my ClubSport edition GT2 wheel, took months to get it. It pay now and get much later with Fanatec it seems! :(

Considering the initial cost of this shifter i find it disgusting that you have to spend an extra $20-$30 to buy an adaptor just to be able to use the 7th gear which is already included. Just Fanatec being greedy.

Do you have the clubsport base? If you do you can hook the shifter right up to the wheel and use the extra gear. If you hook it up to the older wheels then you won't get the 7th gear and then that adapter comes into play.

Great to see you back Shaun!  Always loved watching your hardware projects. I think via this website Fanatec and other manufacturers will get a better chance at reviews where as in the past sponsors such as cough cough Thrustmaster took all the glory smile

Hopefully you will be getting some forums up and running soon, good luck Shaun and keep the reviews and hardware projects coming.

I like the look of this shifter and from owners I've read just how much they like it.  What I like less about it is the failure rate, I've seen quite a few go wrong or that have calibration issues which is slightly off putting.

Here is another iRacing racer who also had "calibration issues;)" until he found out that he pushed the wrong button ;(

I guess it says more about the iRacing crowd than the shifter itself !

That's a members only site and since Assetto Corsa arrived I am not a iRacing member anymore !

I have had zero problems with calibration issues and it have never skiped a gear.

Totally love it and it increase the immersion factor immensely.

I recomend it to all my Sim racing friends !

And with "quite a few" you mean how many ? 5 -6 ?

Just head over to the Shifter thread on iRacing and see for yourself, calibration issues seems to the main woes.

Good review very in depth, will you be filming a long term follow up after a few months?

I am interested if that slop mentioned in the shaft in the "not so good" is going to get worse or increase with use.

I dont think the slop will change at all over time.

I used this shifter and it's indeed a brilliant piece of engineering and for that price you can't go wrong with this one, now using the DSD pro and TH8rs but i will replace that with this one asap smile

Great review Shaun!

Hey Shaun:

I was hoping to participate in the next race and on Simracing System it says it's at Fuji. Which version of Fuji should I download.

Thanks!

Sean,
I am all signed up and ready to race in the Carrera Cup, except for one thing.  How do I obtain Road America?  I do not have it in AC as one of my tracks.  Where is it?

Great review, you've convinced me to buy one of these for my rigsmile

One question, do you think the mounting brackets could be inverted (and swapped left to right) to mount it from the top?
