GT Academy - Proven Drivers

AS the years go by and the list of the (Gran Turismo) GT Academy drivers list continues to grow, so does the success and levels of the previous champions.  At this point there are 16 GT Academy winners, and most of them are working each weekend as professional drivers.  They are now living the dream, drinking the champaign and getting kisses from the trophy girls.  And for these guys it all began on a console game and a competition to beat out ofher gamers/ sim racers.  In the last week there have beena couple of different articles that showcase a few of these drivers and the incredible cars they will be running in this season.

Autosport.com had a great article that talked about the GT Academy winners Jann Mardenborough and Lucas Ordonez to race its radical new GT-R LM NISMO World Endurance Championship contender in 2015.

You can see the entire article from Autosport.com by clicking here:

Again to put it in full perspectice, you have 2 sim racers, that started out sitting on their couches playing a racing game.  And they are now racing against the biggest names in racing, driving for a factory team, in a very extreme race car.  It still blows me away that sim racing has become a real launching platform for the careers of real life drivers.

To give another example of a dream ride that all started in the same way is to look at a recent article from Racer.com.  This article talks about North American GT Academy winner Bryan Heittkotter and Australian winner James Davison who will both be piloting Factory Nissan GTR's in the Pirelli World Challenge.  You can see that full article from Racer.com by clicking here:

In the end this is only the story of 4 different drivers that will be racing this year in very impressive series and cars.  But there are another 12 GT Academy winners that will also be running in various forms of real life motorsport.  If you would like to see the names of the drivers and be able to see what they are currently racing, Gran Turismo has an entire section of their site dedictaed to the GT Academy, you can go right to the drivers list by clicking here:

I wish all of these guys the best of luck in the coming years of racing for them.  And I want to encourage all of you to think about entering the next GT Academy, it could be the best way into racing for us sim racers.

Gran Turismo has been a real success at finding drivers. Hopefully they return to the PS3 on GT6 this year to find their applicants instead of the way they did it last year on a website that used a  keyboard or a controller. If it did have a steering wheel app, I did  not see it. Not that I would have been anywhere near the top, but it is always fun to see how hard they can make it. Great to see "The Original Driving Simulator" giving back to the gaming community, even if the game is now rather arcadish compared to today's simulation games.

Hey Shaun:

I was hoping to participate in the next race and on Simracing System it says it's at Fuji. Which version of Fuji should I download.

Thanks!

Sean,
I am all signed up and ready to race in the Carrera Cup, except for one thing.  How do I obtain Road America?  I do not have it in AC as one of my tracks.  Where is it?

Great review, you've convinced me to buy one of these for my rigsmile

One question, do you think the mounting brackets could be inverted (and swapped left to right) to mount it from the top?
